"How did it come to pass that an opposition's measure of a president's foreign policy was all or nothing, success or "failure"? The answer is that the political absolutism now normal in Washington arrived at the moment--Nov. 7, 2000--that our politics subordinated even a war against terror to seizing the office of the presidency." - Daniel Henninger - WSJ 11/18/05

Quoting Opinions

Something that I have found interesting regarding opinions is that we often hear of this general or that general, this soldier or that soldier, one civilian or another or politician.

In an attempt in not being a dink (no time for niceties, always have to jot something here quickly), since when has the opinion of one stood for everyone and all?

A friend a short while ago (today) read a quote to me from a Major/Blackhawk pilot that recently back from Iraq. This person has been injured, I gathered crippled for life. The question asked of her was along the lines of “does Bush have a plan in Iraq?”

Response: “no, but he has some nice banners.”

That’s pretty funny, but not really from a very knowing source, which I would suspect the poster of the quote and my friend believes it to be.

I mean no disrespect to anyone involved or even anyone with an opinion, since like a**holes, we all have them. But my experience has been and I expect most with my experience would agree (another opinion), is that the ones doing the shooting or being shot at don’t really have some knowing edge on some overall plan. They each as a team, platoon, company, battalion etc. have their mission, which may or may not mean a whole lot to them except that this is what they need to do and they do it.

Of course the big picture of why they are there doing it matters and is of interest to all; they’re not robots, but each is a piece of the bigger. Just because one wears or wore the uniform does by no means mean they know all or even have a clue. It’s often day by day and you just do.

Again, this is not intended as disrespect to those that are sacrificing each second of each day and everyone will have an opinion. Depending upon where you fit within the reality means that your opinion may not mean sh*t beyond what is looking you right in the face.

I can bitch up a storm and often do, which doesn’t mean sh*t.
