"How did it come to pass that an opposition's measure of a president's foreign policy was all or nothing, success or "failure"? The answer is that the political absolutism now normal in Washington arrived at the moment--Nov. 7, 2000--that our politics subordinated even a war against terror to seizing the office of the presidency." - Daniel Henninger - WSJ 11/18/05

Though the article itself is fairly evenhanded, the title and title link for the article adds so much drama and opinion. I'm splitting hairs, but article titles are all people see sometimes. I realize they need to grab peoples attention, however, "Domestic Spying" has a very negative connotation and implies something entirely different or what is likely extemely different. This is surveilance for the sake of national security, NOT some willy nilly political game as many, if not all Democrats have called it. Granted, this may be the type of think a Harry Reid or Hillary Clinton might do, but just because they would does not necessarily mean everyone would do it.

We're not playing games here, however, the Democrats, as they have been wont to do have been playing this game for five years now, damn any consequences. It speak to their mindset that they are not even aware of any negative consequences of politics as usual.

The great thing for both sides of the aisle with this scenario is that all politicians will get to play their games, wasting time and the taxpayers money rather than actually accomplishing anything. They all have time for scoring political points and investigations, which require additional investigations due to the results of the original investigations not fitting their liking. Democrats have been screaming for this and that, over and over with the hope of a different result. Bottom line though is that I don't think they expect any other results as long as they get to trumpet what the believe to be true regardless of results or facts. It is this that the media picks up and runs with all to the detriment of us.

More games, nothing new. It's no wonder something as important as the Patriot Act gets pushed till the end; the better to delay and not really earn their paychecks for what they were elected for.
