"How did it come to pass that an opposition's measure of a president's foreign policy was all or nothing, success or "failure"? The answer is that the political absolutism now normal in Washington arrived at the moment--Nov. 7, 2000--that our politics subordinated even a war against terror to seizing the office of the presidency." - Daniel Henninger - WSJ 11/18/05

Townhall.com :: Columns :: Senate condemnation hearings by Thomas Sowell - Jan 17, 2006

As usual Thomas Sowell is on the mark. To his column I would like to add the following.

If you watched Lindsey Graham and Chuck Schumer on Sunday's Fox News Sunday, you saw Schumer deny that the hearings were partisan or over the top. Whereas Graham insisted they were.

Sowell's remark: "The real purpose of all this grandstanding was to play to the gallery of the most rabid element of Democratic Party activists, people like the Hollywood leftists who contribute big bucks and who hate everything the administration stands for, as well as most of what most Americans stand for."

The Democrats on the committee can tell you up, down, left and right that they are just vetting the nominee. If that were the case would they spend so much time in their leading introduction? Or issue so many uhs, ers, and ums as Joe Biden did, in his attempt to not so much ask a question as to paint the nominee as a right wing idealogue?

I'm afraid all the Democrats are good at these days is rewriting reality as it doesn't happen in the spirit of true DeMediacrats.
