"How did it come to pass that an opposition's measure of a president's foreign policy was all or nothing, success or "failure"? The answer is that the political absolutism now normal in Washington arrived at the moment--Nov. 7, 2000--that our politics subordinated even a war against terror to seizing the office of the presidency." - Daniel Henninger - WSJ 11/18/05

CNN.com - South Dakota nears abortion ban - Feb 24, 2006

CNN.com - South Dakota nears abortion ban - Feb 24, 2006: "Under the legislation, doctors in South Dakota would face up to five years in prison for performing an abortion unless it was necessary to save the woman's life."

Also according to the article, "Opponents of the bill argued that abortion should at least be allowed in cases involving rape, incest and a threat to a women's health."

So looks like some issues are covered; this should be an interesting fight.

Once thing that left me clueless was this statement, "If a woman who is raped becomes pregnant, the rapist would have the same rights to the child as the mother, said Krista Heeren-Graber, executive director of the South Dakota Network Against Family Violence and Sexual Assault." What the, why the, how the...?

Not supporting the abortion of that pregnancy, but wouldn't the rapist be in prison and therefore would not really be able to claim any guardianship of the child? Just wait till the kid is old enough to understand his or her conception and the ensuing fight over parenting rights.
