CNN.com - Hispanics march in Milwaukee against immigration bills - Mar 23, 2006: "'A Day Without Latinos,' the theme of the Milwaukee protest, borrows its name from a 2004 comedy called 'A Day Without a Mexican,' in which California wakes up one day to find that its Hispanic residents have inexplicably disappeared."
It seems that the theme they've chosen is somewhat demeaning to themselves, but that's just me.
There is nothing simple about the issues we have in this country regarding immigration and both sides (myself included) simplify it too much. What bothers me the most is the fact that we have laws in place and they are not enforced. The political game played back and forth over time does nothing to actually address the issue(s) involved.
"Democrats are saying the Frist and Sensenbrenner measures go too far, especially the provisions that threaten to criminalize anyone who helps an undocumented immigrant."
Like the quote above, which denies the reality of a lack of enforcement. Making it a felony might actually be good in that it might open the doors to more serious discussion of what we are talking about. Whether a legal immigrant or not there is still an effect on our economy and country. I am not saying NO to immigration, but their is a fine line between the difference of legal and illegal immigrations effects.
Hillary Clinton said, "this bill would literally criminalize the Good Samaritan and probably even Jesus himself." One, she doesn't know the first thing about Jesus or Good Samaritans; two illegal immigration is already a crime so doesn't logic infer an aiding and abetting type of scenario if you hire illegals?
And as always, along with the Hillster, Harry has to get recognition, "If Leader Frist brings a bill to the floor that does not have the approval of the Judiciary Committee, it will not get out of the Senate." Of course he was just north of the border.
Strike a pose Harry!!!
"How did it come to pass that an opposition's measure of a president's foreign policy was all or nothing, success or "failure"? The answer is that the political absolutism now normal in Washington arrived at the moment--Nov. 7, 2000--that our politics subordinated even a war against terror to seizing the office of the presidency." - Daniel Henninger - WSJ 11/18/05
