"How did it come to pass that an opposition's measure of a president's foreign policy was all or nothing, success or "failure"? The answer is that the political absolutism now normal in Washington arrived at the moment--Nov. 7, 2000--that our politics subordinated even a war against terror to seizing the office of the presidency." - Daniel Henninger - WSJ 11/18/05

G.O.P. Risking Hispanic Votes on Immigration - New York Times

Headline should read "Parties Risking Hispanic Votes on Immigration"

The Times obviously want the impression to be that the Repubs will be hurting on this. There is no question that they will, however the article does address difficulties for the Dems too.

There were discussions with both parties, including what was "called a productive discussion with Howard Dean," according to Rev. Luis Cortes.

Of course the Repubs problem is based more upon their honesty with the situation. Howard and his friends will tell them what they want to hear.
