"How did it come to pass that an opposition's measure of a president's foreign policy was all or nothing, success or "failure"? The answer is that the political absolutism now normal in Washington arrived at the moment--Nov. 7, 2000--that our politics subordinated even a war against terror to seizing the office of the presidency." - Daniel Henninger - WSJ 11/18/05

Not Sweeping Enough

The selling out of a nation....

Cross posted from A Lady's Ruminations:

Is anyone surprised that the Senate, full of people who are supposed to represent us, has decided to throw its lot in with illegal aliens and the open-borders lobby? Just great.

AP: Senate advances sweeping immigration bill

If only that headline meant that the Senate was all for "sweeping" the illegal invaders right out of our country.

Alas, woe are we. The Senate would rather stab us in the back than enforce the laws we already have---perfectly good laws.

Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist, R-Tenn., predicted before the vote that the bill would receive "not overwhelming support but very strong support" and that a legislative compromise would be reached with the House.

"The problem is too big, with millions of people coming across the border and with hundreds dying as they come across the border," Frist said on NBC's "Today" show.
Great! Thanks for selling us out, Senator Frist. We didn't work so hard to keep you all in the majority so you could stab us in the backs.

The problem isn't too big. Close the borders! Enforce the laws! Just do it.

More Senator Frist:
"We as a governing body cannot simply turn and look the other way and say we're not going to do anything about it.
Well you certainly can simply turn and look the other way and not enforce our laws!

Just because we have an huge overflow of illegal aliens in this country, it doesn't mean we have to grant them amnesty. It doesn't mean we have to give them the ability to work legally in this country. It just means we need to find a way to compell them to get out (!) and stay out. It just means we need to enforce our laws.

If our elected "representatives" don't want to do what we elected them to do, then we will just have to sweep them out of office in November. Tell them what you think (and that they better make some vacation plans) here.
