"How did it come to pass that an opposition's measure of a president's foreign policy was all or nothing, success or "failure"? The answer is that the political absolutism now normal in Washington arrived at the moment--Nov. 7, 2000--that our politics subordinated even a war against terror to seizing the office of the presidency." - Daniel Henninger - WSJ 11/18/05

Why Joe Klein and his Employer are Asses

"The Realists Take Charge in Washington"

"This was a big deal. Certainly, it was the end of George W. Bush's radical experiment in partisan governance. It might have been even bigger than that: the end of the conservative pendulum swing that began with Ronald Reagan's revolution."
Time, with it's usual bias and cluelessness, tells us why what is, is what it is so you don't have to.

The Democrats are convinced that their recent gains are proof that Americans want out of Iraq; and intend to govern with that goal in mind. But the Democrats, and Klein is one of them, have always and will continue to listen to only themselves. If all you have accomplished is obstruction through misinformation, how could one possibly know what Americans really feel or believe?

Nancy Pelosi is about to become a grandmother for the sixth time and according to her, this is the only big deal in her life. Nancy Pelosi has said she spends too much time being concerned about child abuse to actually do anything about it. And that's one of the big problems with the Left and big government. They're too busy talking or thinking about various subjects to be bothered with actually doing anything. Investigate this, impeach that, all in the name of accomplishing something; even if that something doesn't actually affect the real world.

Foley was a fine example; clean the pederasts out of the Capitol. Do this because you then look as though you care (which I'm sure they do), but what does this change for the rest of us? Nothing, but that doesn't mean something wasn't accomplished; just nothing that really does anything.

John Kerry was elected to the senate due to his "anti-Vietnam" rhetoric and lies mindset; he hasn't changed, nor will he. We're three decades away from that war, yet he and others in his party are not.

John Murtha, served with honor and bravery in Vietnam. And I guess, along with the rest of the Left, learned that lesson of history. The U.S. left Vietnam in 1975, which is roughly when many on the Left stopped trying to devine any lessons from that war. This means that none of them recognized or learned that ditching a war has it's nasty, violent and bloody ramifications as well.

They learned that protesting and loathing their country lead to the end of our involvement in that Southeast Asia "quagmire;" yet failed to grasp that their words and actions had and have a deleterious effect on outcomes. It's never anything that they have done that has had a negative impact on anything; it's the Republicans and Conservatives.

In the 2004 election, it was my concern that John Kerry and the Left might learn a lesson that would lead them to see that they are all talk and no substance; without anything much to add of a realistic nature to the public debate. I hoped for this because we need two parties at the least and as far as I was and am concerned, the Democrats are not providing that.

Instead, what happened was Kerry's votes was overinflated and based largely on myths and an overzealous base of linguists (see propagandists). So, Kerry and the Left walked away thinking they had the right formula, even though the results were not as hoped for.

Through two years and then the recent elections and they still don't know any better. But that's ok as all that matters is being in power; further reality can be generated in the future as is necessary.

Was it their honesty or dishonesty that got them elected? Unfortunately for the country, they're not even aware of this possibility, so won't be going down that road of introspection any time soon, if ever.
