"How did it come to pass that an opposition's measure of a president's foreign policy was all or nothing, success or "failure"? The answer is that the political absolutism now normal in Washington arrived at the moment--Nov. 7, 2000--that our politics subordinated even a war against terror to seizing the office of the presidency." - Daniel Henninger - WSJ 11/18/05

Syria has only God and Bashar!

See how popular Bashar al-Assad is? 97.6 percent of the vote; that's almost as good as Saddam Hussein.

This is worthy of the entire article...from The NY Times:

"President Bashar al-Assad won 97.6 percent of the vote in a national referendum on Sunday that anointed him to a second seven-year term, officials said. The 41-year-old president was the only candidate allowed to put his name forward in the procedures leading to the vote. Parliament held a session to ratify the results. Then all 250 members rose and chanted “Syria has only God and Bashar!”
