"How did it come to pass that an opposition's measure of a president's foreign policy was all or nothing, success or "failure"? The answer is that the political absolutism now normal in Washington arrived at the moment--Nov. 7, 2000--that our politics subordinated even a war against terror to seizing the office of the presidency." - Daniel Henninger - WSJ 11/18/05

Those Flippin' Shoes!!!!!!!!!

"What the Iraq mission cost Bush."

"The shoe-throwing incident captured another failure of the administration -- the inability to win the support and confidence of the Iraqi people."
Why does one pair of Iraqi shoes represent so many? Could this "event" be akin to a Dem throwing shoes at a Rep or vice versa? Every story seems to gets its own resolution/ending, when often times it is just a piece of the story. To bring everything to "conclusion" when it is nothing but a "detail" is no different than the President declaring "Mission Accomplished."
"History shows that presidents can make bad choices, and those choices can have devastating political consequences on their own legacy in history."
As this commentary is "complete" it would appear to be just a "piece" as well...
