The Demuring Pace on Iran and the Possibility Denying Media

Joint Chiefs of Staff Chairman Marine General Peter Pace yesterday said of Iran's involvement in Iraq according to WaPo:

"We know that the explosively formed projectiles are manufactured in Iran. What I would not say is that the Iranian government, per se, knows about this."

The Washington Post notes with a skeptical ear (finally):

(italics mine)

"Pace's comments came a day after U.S. military officials in Baghdad alleged that the "highest levels" of the Iranian government have directed use of weapons that are killing U.S. troops in Iraq. No information was provided to substantiate the charge. Administration officials yesterday deflected requests for more details, even as they repeatedly implied Tehran's involvement."

Following a "game of softball" covering "country music," among other things with Syria's Assad, Diane Sawyer continued her interview schedule, this time with Mahmoud "Momo" Ahmadinejad; which the Post uses to great effect in sowing continued skepticism of the Bush Administration and the Iraq theater. Believing their own misinformation published over the past half decade plus - WaPo:

"In an interview yesterday with ABC's "Good Morning America," Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said the administration is "pointing fingers at others" when its troop presence in Iraq is the source of most of the country's problems."

"While not denying that Iranian weapons may have been found in Iraq, Ahmadinejad implied that if they were, it was not his government's doing. "Can Americans close their long borders?" he asked, noting that "millions" of Iranians cross the border into neighboring Iraq each year. "The position of our government . . . and the position of the Revolutionary Guard is also the same: We are opposed to any kind of conflict in Iraq."'

Like a skilled politician, "Momo" deftly parries by allowing the media to decide what he meant. To perhaps complete his last statement quoted above (italics represent my words):

"The position of our government . . . and the position of the Revolutionary Guard is also the same: We are opposed to any kind of conflict in Iraq," that we cannot make the most gains from.

The media and Democratic opposition to most things American, fail to grasp the possibility that perhaps the more aggressive attention to Iranian agents in Iraq is the administration's answer to Iranian miscreance.

In WaPo style fairness to the administration (italics and bolding mine:

"In recent weeks, the administration has denied any war plans, saying it is committed to a strategy of pressure and diplomacy against Iran's nuclear activities, operations in Iraq and other aggression."

"In an interview yesterday with C-SPAN, President Bush described his policy as "comprehensive" and complained that charges he is planning to attack Iran are politically motivated and "typical Washington."'

Denial and complaint....don't forget that, they won't. The media will continue to hammer home the reality that nothing in life is a sure thing or a "slam dunk," yet will aggressively pursue that "sure thing, slam dunk" intelligence that they will never believe anyway (Bush's fault), before considering that maybe more diplomacy is acceptable.

Friday Sermon From Iran

Substitute Friday prayers leader of Tehran Hojjatoleslam Ahmad Khatami dressed the U.S. down with:

"Americans should know that their threatening approach towards Iranian government and nation is exhausted and no longer effective and Iranian people pay no attention to that,"

Also, watch out for the grass roots groups on February 11, 2007; the 28th anniversary of the Iranian Revolution:

"Iranian nation will on the day show once again that the US can not do a damn thing"

Where even Allah fears to tread, Iran's Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki called for quick restructuring of U.N. during his opening act for the "Friday Sermon":

"Current structure of the UN, in which certain states have the veto power, is unfair; it should soon be reformed."

This structure obviously is not fair as the many that stick together as a thorn in the U.S.' side is not good enough. Also, considering the "successful" restructuring of the "human rights council"

Iran is alone and surrounded in the region, which should be of concern....Mottaki:

"Security in Iraq is not so much important for any country in and even out of the region as it is for Iran."

So, uh Iran should continue everything in it's power to keep Iraq the security mess it is so that Iran may then clean it up????????

Friday Sermon From Iran

According to IRNA:

"Tehran's substitute Friday Prayers Leader Ayatollah Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani by referring to the enemies' conspiracies said national unity must be maintained and those who cause discord should not be let make trouble."

I think he means us, but he also means within Iran....Freedom is great, isn't it?

Last week, Substitute Friday prayers leader of Tehran Ayatollah Mohammad Emami Kashani:

“warned against the US and UK attempts to divide Shiites and Sunnis and said the world, including the Middle East and Muslim world, have become growingly aware.”

Which I found:

Odd that anything Tehran accuses the West of is something they, themselves are heavily involved in. Kashani calls for non-interference between Shiites and Sunnis, yet Michael Ledeen says:

“We have arrested officers from the Quds Force of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard in Baghdad and Irbil, apparently with considerable documentation of the mullahs’ support for both Sunni and Shiite terrorists.”

This week, substitute Friday Prayers Leader Ayatollah Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani said:

"We are relatively in a hard situation. Our enemies, after repeated failures, have returned with new tactics."

The statement, if taken to it's logical conclusion sounds an awful lot like a case of nothing the Mullahs should be concerned about - that is if they're not in Iraq.
