"How did it come to pass that an opposition's measure of a president's foreign policy was all or nothing, success or "failure"? The answer is that the political absolutism now normal in Washington arrived at the moment--Nov. 7, 2000--that our politics subordinated even a war against terror to seizing the office of the presidency." - Daniel Henninger - WSJ 11/18/05

CNN.com - Alito sworn in as nation's 110th Supreme Court justice - Jan 31, 2006

CNN.com - Alito sworn in as nation's 110th Supreme Court justice - Jan 31, 2006: "The vote was the closest confirmation for a nominee since Justice Clarence Thomas was confirmed 52-48 in 1991."

I realize CNN means that as far as other votes have gone since '91 the spread has been wider, but 58 - 42 or a 16 vote spread is a far cry from the comparison of a 4 vote difference. They just love making something of nothing, don't they? Just like their allies in the Democratic party.

"The confirmation vote came a day after an attempt by some Democratic senators to block his nomination fizzled."

Which should be expected since it was led by the billionaire by marriage Kerry. Kerry is quoted as saying '"Alito's record during his 15 years on the 3rd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals has given"' "the extreme right wing unbelievable public cause for celebration." And, "That just about tells you what you need to know."

The fact that Kerry is up in arms regarding Alito "just about tells you what you need to know."

Perhaps he should have stayed home rather than conducting business in Davos? Just goes to show he doesn't have a bone of conviction in his body. He only jumped on the filibuster bandwagon late last week due to not paying any attention, however, a few calls from extremist left wing groups was all he needed to get a move on.

Don't forget Hillary Clinton supported the filibuster on this, especially as she continues to try to appear centrist, which she is far from and never has been.
