"How did it come to pass that an opposition's measure of a president's foreign policy was all or nothing, success or "failure"? The answer is that the political absolutism now normal in Washington arrived at the moment--Nov. 7, 2000--that our politics subordinated even a war against terror to seizing the office of the presidency." - Daniel Henninger - WSJ 11/18/05

CNN.com - Iraq captors: Last chance for demand - Jan 28, 2006

The "Gay Blades of Righteousness" (actually Swords of Righteousness, but I prefer my derogatory name), abducted two Canadians, an American and Briton of the group Christian Peacemaker Teams back on November 26, 2005.

Through their mouthpiece Al-Jazeera, new video was aired on 1/21/06. They must feel that the Jill Carroll abduction opens options up, as they are stupid enough to believe the women recently released from prison was due to that kidnapping.

Non-extremist Iraqis, like the mother of a released detainee said upon her daughters release from detention, "I don't think Jill Carroll's situation has anything to do with the release of my daughter, but we definitely feel her pain...." It is nice to hear some people still have a level head, although the "feel her pain" comment is a bit Bill Clintonesque.

The recently aired tape's owners call for the release of Iraqi prisoners, although no deadline has been offered.

Opponents of the action in Iraq will see this as yet another indicator of the error of our being in Iraq. They will paint and use whatever is available as proof, however, perfection and zero casualties is never a possibility. Unfortunately eggs will break.
