"How did it come to pass that an opposition's measure of a president's foreign policy was all or nothing, success or "failure"? The answer is that the political absolutism now normal in Washington arrived at the moment--Nov. 7, 2000--that our politics subordinated even a war against terror to seizing the office of the presidency." - Daniel Henninger - WSJ 11/18/05

David Letterman Denounces Iraq War and Criticism of Sheehan --1/4/2006-- Media Research Center

This is not quoted/linked to bust on Letterman specifically, but if you read the transcript as put together by Brent Baker it goes a long way in providing an example of why the debate on Iraq is close to impossible, if not impossible. It is full of asking one thing and replying to the response with something else. So often with interviews it becomes difficult to follow due to it's going all over the place. This is no way to debate anything unless of course you just want to trample over the opposition to get your side out.

Whether or not one agrees with the Iraq/War on Terrorism, it would behoove us all to actually understand as much as we can rather than obfuscate intentionally or unitentionally.

To repeat, this is not a diss on Letterman as it's not his forte (obviously). As for applause noted, I sincerely hope it was based on the applause sign lighting up.
