"How did it come to pass that an opposition's measure of a president's foreign policy was all or nothing, success or "failure"? The answer is that the political absolutism now normal in Washington arrived at the moment--Nov. 7, 2000--that our politics subordinated even a war against terror to seizing the office of the presidency." - Daniel Henninger - WSJ 11/18/05

May 1 immigrant boycott aims to "close" cities

Immigrant boycott, not illegal alien/immigrant boycott. Nice...

According to Reuters:

Pro-immigration activists say a national boycott and marches planned for May 1 will flood U.S. streets with millions of Latinos to demand amnesty for illegal immigrants and shake the ground under Congress as it debates reform.
This should make it all the easier to round illegal aliens up, but we don't work that way.

The Reuters article also says, " Such a massive turnout could make for the largest protests since the civil rights era of the 1960s" which I'm guessing is a nod and a wink toward the effort to paint this as a "civil rights" issue as Jesse Jackson's bandwagon claims.
"There will be 2 to 3 million people hitting the streets in Los Angeles alone. We're going to close down Los Angeles, Chicago, New York, Tucson, Phoenix, Fresno," said Jorge Rodriguez, a union official who helped organize earlier rallies credited with rattling Congress as it debates the issue. He added, "We want full amnesty, full legalization for anybody who is here (illegally), that is the message that is going to be played out across the country on May 1."
Jorge is telling it like it is I guess, although beyond traffic congestion, the lack of participation in the daily functioning of the illegal community would not have the effect they desire or feel that it would have.
Conservatives want the estimated 12 million illegal immigrants classified as felons and a fence built along the Mexican border.
News to me, I didn't realize all Conservatives wanted this. Nice way to paint it.

Hey, even the Teachers Unions are behind this activity:
Teachers' unions in major cities have said children should not be punished for walking out of class.
Our children are in good hands.

Finally:
"This is going to be really big. We're going to have millions of people," said Juan Jose Gutierrez, director of the Latino Movement USA. "We are not concerned at all. We believe it's possible for Congress to get the message that the time to act is now."
It's time for Congress to "get the message." So it's screw legal immigrants to this country, screw citizens of this country. 'We've come here illegally and we want our RIGHTS!'

Our politicians better not let them have their way on this...
