"How did it come to pass that an opposition's measure of a president's foreign policy was all or nothing, success or "failure"? The answer is that the political absolutism now normal in Washington arrived at the moment--Nov. 7, 2000--that our politics subordinated even a war against terror to seizing the office of the presidency." - Daniel Henninger - WSJ 11/18/05

Rewriting History

I love history re-writes. I find that alternate history/what if fiction can be extremely entertaining. Harry Turtledove is among the better.

History re-writes are not much fun though if written as fact.

Cross posted from InMuscatine:

Evidently, the Des Moines Register isn't content to just provide cover fire for illegal aliens.
For some reason they feel compelled to re-write history about the goals of the "Day
Without Immigrants". It wouldn't surprise me in the least to see other MSM outlets follow
the Des Moines Register's lead.

Des Moines Register | 17 estimated fired for Day Without Immigrants:

The boycott was designed to draw attention to the need for better immigration policies and the importance of immigrants' contribution to society and the economy.
No it wasn't :
So when organizers insisted on continuing the offensive with a nationwide boycott aimed at crippling the nation's economy on May 1, it was a political disaster waiting to happen. Immigrants (legal or otherwise) were urged to boycott work, school and
commerce and go out and demonstrate instead.
The aim and goal of the boycott was to show the influence illegal aliens have on this country by crippling the economy. The problem is - by the estimates of those with the most to lose - only 30% took part. We are supposed to believe this is a solid block to be feared as voters?

Still, shame on the Des Moines Register and its blatant attempt to re-write history to serve their political purposes. This demonstration was about political muscle-flexing, and it failed miserably in every goal stated before the event took place. The Des Moines Register is always wont to back causes and events that the majority of Iowans do not favor, so it is not surprising they would attempt a re-write of history to make up for the failings of illegal aliens to secure political power.
