"How did it come to pass that an opposition's measure of a president's foreign policy was all or nothing, success or "failure"? The answer is that the political absolutism now normal in Washington arrived at the moment--Nov. 7, 2000--that our politics subordinated even a war against terror to seizing the office of the presidency." - Daniel Henninger - WSJ 11/18/05

Partial Mexican Recount Begins ...

Hopefully Jimmy Carter and the U.N. will be present for this we want to make sure the re-count has integrity afterall...

Cross posted from Red Hot Cuppa Politics:

So, the partial re-count in Mexico has started:

"Across Mexico, judges, election officials and party representatives began the slow process of recounting hundreds of thousands of ballots from about 12,000 polling places. More than 180 magistrates oversaw the opening of packets containing ballots from the July 2 election that are to be counted again in 149 of 300 voting districts and 25 of the 32 states.

It is an exercise that could well determine the course of the country. Mr. López Obrador and his supporters have stepped up their campaign of civil disobedience to demand a recount in all 130,000 polling places and are threatening to make it difficult for Mr. Calderón to govern if they do not get their way..."

So far, according to the article, two missplaced voted for AMLO have been found. You'll have to use some of the fingers of one hand to count them. Read the rest of the Slimes article to see how those two votes are really, really significant.

Of course, even if there is a total recount -- I wonder how many times it would have to be done until the "correct" candidate won.

Mark In Mexico is reporting that reporters and broadcasters were attacked when they tried to make their way to AMLO's big speech in front of the electoral office.

Meanwhile, Mark's reporting that in Oaxaca:
Yesterday morning, a group of masked thugs attacked the emergency channel studio (066, like our 911) and did sufficient damage to cause it to suspend operations. The emergency services number 066 remains out of operation. The thugs also got into the station's parking lot, slashing tires and painting slogans on cars. They warned the employees that if the station was restarted "We'll be back"

Leftist protestors always claim to be for the people, and for free speech, then proceed to bludgeon anyone who actually excercises free speech.
