"How did it come to pass that an opposition's measure of a president's foreign policy was all or nothing, success or "failure"? The answer is that the political absolutism now normal in Washington arrived at the moment--Nov. 7, 2000--that our politics subordinated even a war against terror to seizing the office of the presidency." - Daniel Henninger - WSJ 11/18/05

Elvira and the Mexican Delegation, Polls and other CAII Posts

I, like most people I hope (if not, please suggest good places to be committed), can be contradictory.

For example, it does my heart no good that there are those seeking a better life for themselves and their families must resort to entering the U.S. illegally to do so.

Yet, the other side of the coin is that this is not legal, so ultimately I have very little pity especially when many here in the U.S. illegally are clamoring and fighting to change my country. For a good example of this read the post below from Morning Coffee.

I can also be contradictory in that I have an intense dislike of polls in combination with the medias and politicians dependency upon them.

Yet, what do you know, I like taking them.

I took a Zogby poll this morning regarding healthcare in the U.S.. The poll obviously asked for opinion on healthcare, but there were the many oddball, "what does this question have to do with healthcare." which are the questions that allow polling companies like Zog, to put some respondents in their appropriate Nazi category.

Among the many questions like, "how'd I vote in '04," and "is Bush doing a good job in Iraq," were two that stood out for me. Instead of keeping the poll to healthcare and health insurance issues, it has to slip in more fodder to make an already difficult issue, more difficult.

The three questions are/were:

"Do you agree or disagree that Medicaid--the state/federal healthcare program for the poor--should be available to those who are not in the U.S. legally? Agree, Disagree or Not Sure."

"An estimated 20 million illegal immigrants in the US do not have health insurance. Do you think that this 20 million should be included or excluded when calculating the total number of Americans currently living without health insurance? Should be Included, Should be Excluded, or Not Sure."
When we have the troubles we have here, just like in any country; why must there always be those that feel the need to make an already exasperating situation all the more so? We've all heard the estimates of "20 million illegals," in the U.S., although this is the first time I can recall lower estimates were not referenced. How close to accurate is the "20 million," and on the other side, how accurate is the "46 million?" This is not to belittle the "46 million," but to emphasize the additional "20 million" this would add to an already difficult issue to work out. Especially when we consider that none of the "illegal immigrant," issue has been resolved along with immigration reform in general.

The second question quoted asks whether the "20 million" estimate should be included in the "46 million" estimate. Is this because they are among those living on the American continent, North or South?

I don't understand why muddying things further is necessary, when our politicians cannot fix things as they are. These people here "illegally" shouldn't even make it into the mix, (guess you can tell what my response were). What do they have to do with it, except for the strain they already contribute to the problem.

The "Comprehensive" camp on "legal/illegal" immigration wants it all sewn up in one fell swoop, which would address issues such as those posed by the "poll" questions. The "Security First" camp for the most part wants the security of our borders and enforcement of our laws, front and center. All the other pieces can follow, so in reality this is comprehensive as well, just not in the same meeting.

I wonder how many "illegals" took part or will take part in this poll and others.....

You ever notice how it's always up to the U.S. to solve other peoples problems. If we don't try many scream 'we should'; when we do, many scream 'we shouldn't.' Elvira Arellano has been a source of sharp pain in my left buttock due to the illogical nature of her demands. Mexican politicians can jump up and down supporting her in her quest for changes in the U.S., yet oddly fall silent if it involves doing something about it in their own backyard. That's why there is recent good news for Elvira Arellano, as she gets the support of a Legislative group from Mexico and some U.S. Democrats. You think Elvira could use this stump as a clarion call for injustice in her homeland of Mexico? No, I guess not; she'd rather change our country.

From Morning Coffee, "Elvira gets a legislative audience,"

Remember Elvira Arellano, the illegal immigrant taking sanctuary in a local church? She got a legislative audience over the weekend.

From WMAQTV Chicago

A delegation of congressmen from Mexico is meeting with Elvira Arellano — the woman who’s been defying immigration authorities by taking sanctuary at a local church.

Arellano is fighting deportation as an undocumented immigrant.

The Mexican delegation first met with their congressional counterparts in Washington, urging the U.S. government to provide relief for Arellano and other families with children who are American citizens.

From stikNstein, "Senate Democrats give Feinstein OK to hold hearing on Ramos-Compean,"

Sen. Dianne Feinstein, D-Calif., has received permission from Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Patrick Leahy, D-Vt., to hold a hearing on the case.

“I strongly believe that the sentences in this case are too extreme, given the criminal nature of the defendant and his possession of large quantities of drugs,” Feinstein said in a statement. “These men were given sentences that some individuals who are convicted of murder wouldn’t receive.”

The conspiracy theorists may be right. OTTAWA - Canadian, U.S. and Mexican politicians discussed using "stealth" to overcome public resistance to the integration of the three countries at a confidential meeting last year, according to documents just released under U.S. Freedom of Information laws.

It is one great piece of work!!!!

I guess now some people may understand why we get so upset when we are called RACISTS!
