"How did it come to pass that an opposition's measure of a president's foreign policy was all or nothing, success or "failure"? The answer is that the political absolutism now normal in Washington arrived at the moment--Nov. 7, 2000--that our politics subordinated even a war against terror to seizing the office of the presidency." - Daniel Henninger - WSJ 11/18/05

Show Your Support for the Blue Star Deli

C’mon Blog World!! Let’s get with the program, I know not all of you live in the D/FW area and can’t meet for lunch on Monday, I know this has been thrown together on pretty short notice for those that DO live in the area, and I completely understand too, but here’s what you CAN do…

Copy my post and make a post in YOUR blog, link it back to here and I will return the favor, just posting about this is a tremendous help, the more bloggers that post this, the more people that will see it, and if you’re able, send the guy a $5 or $10 donation, and in the ‘MEMO’ line write in Blogger Support, we CAN help this guy, bloggers ARE a force to be reckoned with, put your money where your keyboard is, we are…

I’m sending out a BIG Texas ‘Hat Tip’ to Murray at Lone Star Diary for sending me this story, great catch Murray!!

I just talked to Dave, the Deli owner and he will be open this Sunday, but it will be his last Sunday, business is that bad, it appears that Farmers Branch has a lot of illegals focused on shutting this guy down, well, I think the wife and I are going to go have lunch at the Blue Star Deli Monday…

Anyone in the D/FW area that wants to get together and have a bloggers lunch, get together, meet and greet, drop me an email and we’ll coordinate an effort for NOON on Monday, July 16th…

Others that are blogging in support of this story, or meeting for lunch at NOON on MONDAY July 16th or are making donations:

Dave Mooney, owner of the Blue Star Deli in Farmers Branch, Texas, is feeling the backlash of his support of Farmers Branch. Dave has been in the forefront of support, opening up his cafe for all types of activities to support Farmers Branch and what that city has tried to do to stop the harm illegal immigration is doing.

News has surfaced from Halliburton employees that a boycott has been called by the Hispanic and pro-illegal employees. Although, Dave didn’t have a contract for business lunches, he did receive orders to provide business lunches from time to time. These orders have now stopped. Also, it is being reported that Hispanic radio stations are broadcasting a boycott of the Blue Star.

Dave is experiencing a 50% decrease in sales receipts due to this boycott and has now taken a second job. The call is out for all of us do what we can to help Dave. If you are in the area, stop by and have one of Dave’s good hamburgers, tell others about the Blue Star Deli.

Call KSKY radio’s Mike Gallagher, KLIF’s Jeff Bolton and John David Wells, all who have had broadcasts at the Blue Star Deli, to ask their listening audience to support Dave. Let’s all do what we can to keep Dave in business.

U.S Border Watch will be sending a check to Mr Mooney, and we encourage everyone else to send him a few bucks. Five or ten dollars in a restaurant business is a lot of money. We must help those who have put their business on the line to help our cause. Below is the address and web site for the Blue Star Deli, and if you are in the area drop in and thank this fine Patriot for his support and have a burger.

Immigration; Don’t Just Do Something, Stand There!

This may be a “comprehensive” attempt at posting on the subject of “comprehensive” immigration reform. Bottom line is that “comprehensive” needs to be thwarted until each piece is analyzed; believe it or not there is time.

Keep getting nothing done and we may eventually get what we really need. In the mean time enforce the laws on the books now. Attrition! Get pulled over for speeding and the police realize you shouldn’t be here? Attrition! Drive drunk, shouldn’t be here? Attrition! Live in Arizona and it is found you are here illegally? Don’t worry Prop 100, the ballot measure approved by 78 percent of voters in 2006 which denies the right to bail for illegal immigrants accused of serious felonies, will take care of you. Maybe not as many judges choose to break the law on this.

We used to feel that immigration needed to be fixed immediately, it does, but it can wait. We’ve always detested the comprehensive route for the immigration fix and still do. Slow down, catch your breath and don’t just do something, stand there. Don’t let this “piece” of legislation go anywhere. We’ll call, fax and e-mail in support of you’re just standing there and not letting garbage out the door.

Is it garbage? Is it expensive?

Immigration reform? Stand there….Is free range part of a comprehensive immigration reform? I don’t know, does anyone? This is what the American people want, they said so in November! What about the ones that weren’t shown the door? "You show me a 50-foot wall and I'll show you a 51-foot ladder at the border." Don’t worry too much about a border fence as at the rate it is being built, it will take 20 years to complete.

Senator Tedward Kennedy once said when a “comprehensive” bill didn’t pass muster:

‘"After a summer of cynical immigration campaign events and years of cutting billions from border security funding, today's announcement has more to do with solving a political problem for Republicans than solving our illegal-immigration problem."’

‘"While we all support more resources for border security, it is abundantly clear that these stop-gap measures are designed to provide cover for their failure to produce comprehensive reform."’

You stood there then; stand there again and more of us will catch on to the game and make sure you do it right.

Tedward wants it all and now:

‘“Our security is threatened in the post-9/11 world by borders out of control. Our values are tarnished when we allow 12 million human beings to live in the dark shadows of abuse as undocumented immigrants. Our competitiveness in a global economy is at risk when our employers cannot find the able workers they need.”

Harry Reid didn’t realize it last September, but he does now:

“There just simply is not enough time on this massive, massively important piece of legislation to do it all (in a week).”

Thanks to your honesty previously Harry. Don’t just do something, stand there…

As it became apparent that the walls were closing in, Judiciary chairman, Senator Patrick Leahy began employing the cloak that would hide signs of Democrat involvement saying:

‘“The bill we have before us is a product of closed-door meetings between the administration and Republican senators, which was then put to Democratic senators as a framework for further negotiations.”’

Bottom line is that the Republicans need to stand there and prevent this all from happening now. Fight to make what we have work and make something we want when you don’t have to answer to a turd majority.

    Beheadings on the U.S. Border

    Cross posted from Right Truth:

This is not the first time we have beheaded and mutilated bodies on the United States border and in other Mexican locations. Generally we think of beheading in places like the Middle East, not in our backyard. This is not Islamic terrorists, it's Mexican drug gangs. This particular man may have been a police officer. Part of this brutality is over 'billion-dollar smuggling routes into the United States.'

Mexican police found a mutilated, beheaded body dumped outside a military base on the U.S. border ...

The torso, headless and missing its limbs, was wrapped in a plastic bag and blankets and spotted by passers-by before dawn in the seedy Mexican border city of Tijuana, near San Diego, and not far from a Mexican police anti-drugs squad office.

It was one of the goriest among some 900 gangland-style murders this year by feuding drug cartels.

"An execution of this kind can only be committed by organized crime," said an official at the Baja California state attorney general's office. (Reuters)

Areas around Acapulco have seen several reports of brutal beheading and killing. Last year "two police officers' heads, streaming with blood, were stuck on metal spikes outside a downtown building with a fluorescent cardboard sign. "So that you learn to respect," it read in thick black letters." (More at Chicago Tribune)

Fred Burton of Strategic Forecast, has an excellent article, "Mexico: The Price of Peace in the Cartel Wars":

So far, 2007 has been a bad year for one of Mexico's two most powerful drug-trafficking enterprises: the Gulf cartel. In January, the organization suffered a major hit when Mexico extradited its captured leader, Osiel Cardenas, to the United States. Then, on April 17, authorities arrested five Gulf members just south of the Texas border in Reynosa. Among those taken into custody was Juan Oscar Garza, purportedly an important Gulf cartel leader in the city. Less than a week later, authorities in Nuevo Laredo captured Gulf cartel leader Eleazar Medina Rojas. The Mexican Attorney General's office described Medina as "a major killer."

Radical Islam…Coming to a Border Near You

We have often been slandered in the polarized debate by those that disagree with us. I cannot speak for every member of the Coalition Against Illegal Immigration, but I likely would find much agreement within the community.

We’re “anti-immigration,” “anti-immigrant,” “xenophobic,” “racist,” and on and on. My biggest gripe has been with those that want a “comprehensive” reform, which implies that it is thoughtful, humane and all encompassing. This side by side with the more “ignorant” appearing stance of guard the border is looked upon by the elite as pathetically and woefully misguided.

No one, to my admittedly limited knowledge that is a member of the CAII claims this stance as their only offering to the debate. We all, when you get right down to it are interested in a “comprehensive” reform to the system; it is just in the manner and admittedly many of the details that we might disagree.

My big complaint regarding the “comprehensive” route is the fact that it holds the likelihood of allowing out elected elite the opportunity to put in all manner of useless legislation that ultimately negates much of what they actually put in place. This I believe is done in part due to their ignorance, but most likely contains their cynical belief that we are stupid and do not posses the smarts necessary to identify BS as BS. I lean toward a piece by piece approach due to the fact that not much of any worth gets done in DC. Hence my stance enforcement first; then we’ll look further down the road

I know, you know and they know that anything but that would likely fall by the wayside. Which is the likeliest reason so many politicos are against enforcing the border, then verifying improvement before other parts of reform; like a “guest worker program,” were put into place. No real loud gripes from me on the guest worker option, but the logic of one prior to actually controlling the entrance make sense. How on earth we could say this number entered or didn’t when we’re only counting that which we can; the legal entries. Doesn’t sound like a winning formula to me.

How about this odd suggestion? Try enforcing the laws as they exist now prior to reforming anything. When one considers that such programs as “Operation Vanguard” in Kansas a number of years ago, which was proving fruitful, are hampered by our politicians because they are working and are affecting their some of their constituencies bottom line; they stomp on it and stop the operation, rather than addressing what the operation reveals.

As much as those that want a fence at the border are shouted down as ignorant rubes, especially when terrorism is uttered, one must seriously consider this possibility. Facts surrounding those that committed the atrocity of 9/11 speak volumes to some, of the stupidity of those that say terrorists could enter the country illegally. But then again, whoever thought 9/11 would happen?

I bring this small piece of the debate up today because of an article I had the extreme displeasure of reading this morning at Council for Security Policy. I used this article as part of a post I did on Iran this morning “Iran- Equal Opportunity Tehrrorist Regime – Sunni, Shia, Taliban, Latin America.” But fully intended to post about what is going on south of our border in plain view and how this makes border enforcement all the more important today. Will any of the mainstream media pick up on this? Not likely, but here is the gist.

Hugo Chavez, the elected dictator of Venezuela supports Iran’s quest for “peaceful nukes.” Hugo Chavez supports and has ties with growing grass roots populist groups and radicals like Hezbollah Venezuela, Hezbollah Argentina and Quebracho.

According to the article “Latin America’s radical grassroots:”

Hezbollah Argentina works with the Islamic Association of Argentina (AIA), which has links to Hezbollah and to the government of Iran. AIA consists mainly of Shiite converts to Islam who cooperate closely with the Iranian Embassy. The organization's website celebrates the anniversary of the Islamic Revolution in Iran, condemns the United Nations Security Council resolution that calls for sanctions against Iran, and is violently critical of Israel and the West.”

Quebracho, “whose official name is the Patriotic Revolutionary Movement (MPR), touts an ideology based on toxic anti-capitalism and "anti-imperialism." Their angst and anger are directed at the International Monetary Fund, the World Bank, the United States, Japan, Israel, and Argentineans who are linked to these countries or organizations.”

They’re a nasty bunch and though our nation does not border any Middle Eastern countries that contain radical Islamists it doesn’t have to when they can come to us. Read the rest of the article at Center for Security Policy.

Do we have to wait for something to happen due to our lax security not only in the country but at our borders before something is actually done? Or do we have to wait on the continued political games that are played only to arrive at zero accomplishment but a successful election? It’s there for all to see, if one chooses to look at it.

3 Students deported to Mexico - Hope they're Mexican

From the Arizona Republic (italics mine):

“Three Valley high school students were deported to Mexico after a Gilbert police officer stopped the car they were in for drag racing and called federal immigration officials.”

Something funny from the Arizona Republic:

“(H)ead of the Gilbert Human Relations Commission questioned whether the students were victims of racial profiling.”

"It would sadden me if this was a racial-profiling event by a patrolman. It does demand additional answers."

Funny, however I will hold judgment due to the fact that I am not sure if they were racing while in drag (slow) or drag racing (fast).

Evidence of Racial Profiling from the Arizona Republic:

“The officer called ICE after the driver, Jaime Cisneros, 16, of Chandler, said he didn't have an Arizona driver's license but did own a Mexican driver's license, although he was not carrying it.”

Oop, ok, they were "driving," ergot we can assume, though not substantiate at this time that they were going really, really fast. Reports of attire are not available at this time.

In the case of the 3 teens, ICE confirmed their being in the country illegally; were returned to Mexico from the Mexican Consulate Office following interviews and a parent of each were notified of the incident.

According to a radio news report this morning, while at ICE parents of the teens did not come to the aid of them. Hmmmmmmmm…..

    Ethnic/racial percentage determine school officials?

Cross posted from Bear Creek Ledger:

Well, isn't this interesting. From Freedom Folks we see a Black principal lose his job at a Chicago High School (Curie High School) because 68% of those attending this school are "Hispanic".

Showdown at OK Corral (from Chicago Sun-Times):

The highly rated African-American principal of Curie High School remains ousted after the new Hispanic majority on the local school council refused to reverse its vote Saturday under pressure from school and city officials.

"The school is 62 percent Hispanic, and they want a Hispanic principal," Otis Davis Jr. said Saturday after he and two other LSC members who support Jones stormed out of the meeting to deprive members of a quorum.

African-American supporters of Principal Jerryelyn Jones shouted, "Speak English!" at anti-Jones LSC member Maria Lopez as she addressed the crowd in Spanish.

There's more so check it out.

I'd say the situation in Chicago hasn't reached the level of violence as Los Angeles, but give it time.

    Immigration Reform?

When will the politicians wake up?

In answer to that question, they do wake up; think 9/11. But no sooner do they awaken to something, they and the public with the assistance of the “we know everything” MsMEDIA allow themselves to be lulled back into slumber.

No one was really that awake in 1986 when the Ronald Reagan signed the Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986 (italics mine), which allowed for the amnesty of approximately 2.7 million illegal immigrants. Passage of the act criminalized businesses with fines if they knowingly hired an illegal, auditing of I-9 forms and stepped up border enforcement and. The amnesty granted reached back to illegal immigrants in the country since roughly 1982.

Fast forward 10 years and our government found it necessary to pass the Illegal Immigration Reform and Immigrant Responsibility Act of 1996. Two pieces of this legislation were authorization for the increase in border patrol agents and the barring of permanent residence to those illegal immigrants that were found to have claimed to be U.S. citizens.

I offer the two examples above, not in great detail, but as examples of previous attempts at reforming immigration. This is not to say reform is not necessary to immigration or anything in general as scenarios change, so obviously reform of some sort may always be needed somewhere down the road.

Immigration reform is one of those “hot button” issues that has many up in arms, with opposing arguments offered in screeches rather than debate. I personally believe that perhaps, reform at this time may not be as necessary as enforcing the law as written now. Granted, we have an estimated 12 to 20 million “illegal” immigrants in the country at this time. This of course does not allow for the political soundbyting that all pols love. It also would require their having a clue what they are talking about. My pessimism aside, in 1998-99, the state of Nebraska began an operation called “Operation Vanguard,” “which "sought to identify illegal workers at all meatpacking plants in Nebraska." The plan was to slowly "wean" employers off "illegal labor," and was working until "employers and politicians vociferously criticized the very idea of enforcing the immigration law." This strikes me as an example of ‘what is the point’ if you don’t walk the talk.

Another example, the simplicity of which a mind like mine can grasp is with regard to the “Illegal Immigration Reform and Immigrant Responsibility Act of 1996,” and it’s section that dealt with the “barring of permanent residence.” But simply put this I guess is just not as simple as I was (easily) led to believe as I wonder, what about ‘what about Elvira Arellano? (previous Arellano posts, here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here, and here. It must be love.). Strikes me that she is a prime candidate for poster child in the debate, but she is inextricably linked with the side of the argument that doesn’t seem to have an issue with supporting “illegal” activity.

But, hey, I’m just one of those racist, xenophobes the media denigrates because it’s a simple argument that so many have missed the point of as a recent NY Times editorial pointed out :

“Catch the Immigrant” also reflects a larger misunderstanding of the immigration issue. The more than 11 million illegal immigrants cannot be caught. Even if they could be, rounding them up and deporting them would be disastrous, economically and socially. Educators should teach the game players about the real world."

I would really have liked “enforcement first” reform that strengthened the border and pushed for interior enforcement before allowing politicians to continue to run roughshod over our laws; laws mind you that they wrote. The idea of taking the time to see if they actually did what they said they were going to do gave me great hope. But now of course, there is not much, if any possibility of that, so we’ll get our “comprehensive” reform mishmash that allows the clueless to add insult to injury and the scoring of political points today and forgetting about tomorrow as they can just do this again sometime later.

I read an interesting article by John O’Sullivan in the most recent issue of National Review March 19, 2007 VOL. LIX, NO. 4, a quote of which is as follows:

“Comprehensive immigration reform is what the Beltway calls a bipartisan issue — namely, one supported by almost all Democrats and a minority of Republicans. Outside the Beltway, more or less open immigration is supported by corporate and cultural elites and opposed by more than 70 percent of voters. But the elite support is so strongly felt that the issue is falsely presented in the media as a dispute between most (enlightened) Americans, on one hand, and bigots, xenophobes, and the Republican “base” on the other.”

Politicians are bad enough, but we vote for them; I don’t recall ever voting for anyone in the msm, yet rather than be the vanguard they often claim to be they’re really no better than the pols, lobbyists or propagandists themselves.

  • Not in My Backyard - Locals Flip over Hiring Hall"

It would appear that what is enough for the gander is NOT goose.

An upscale area in Southampton Village, NY (I wasn’t aware of anything that wasn’t upscale there, but this sounds to be something that isn’t), has local residents and business owners in tizzy regarding a planned hiring hall for “immigrant laborers.”

As it stands now, the laborers (by the hundreds), hang out waiting for work opportunities at a local 7-11. The Coalition for a Worklink Center, wants to change that by putting a trailer, porto-lets and parking spaces in a “posh” section of town to replace 7-11 option, which has proved to be a magnet for “traffic snarls, sanitary issues and occasionally unruly behavior at the store.”

Area restaurant, business owners and residents are not too hot on the idea. I would guess the “unofficial” location at the 7-11 was ok to them as none tend to be big fans of slurpees.

The “hiring hall” would offer a great opportunity for checking on “immigrant” status as people were picked up for temporary work and the passing out of 1099s; not that anyone would dare try to enforce our nations immigration laws here or anywhere else for that matter.

Is Southampton an example of one of the two Americas Edwards has been talking about for a couple years now?
