"How did it come to pass that an opposition's measure of a president's foreign policy was all or nothing, success or "failure"? The answer is that the political absolutism now normal in Washington arrived at the moment--Nov. 7, 2000--that our politics subordinated even a war against terror to seizing the office of the presidency." - Daniel Henninger - WSJ 11/18/05

CNN-QuickVote-How did SOTU 2006 make you feel

How did President Bush's speech make you feel about the state of the nation?

More encouraged 23% 14125 votes
Less encouraged 29% 18157 votes
I didn’t watch it 48% 30148 votes
Total: 62430 votes

I think the people that didn't watch are more honest than those that responded with "less encouraged." If you don't allow an opportunity like the State of the Union, to improve you outlook, if only for a few days, you just don't want to be reached.

Those less encouraged will only be encouraged when we can completely shut out reality.

sorry
