"How did it come to pass that an opposition's measure of a president's foreign policy was all or nothing, success or "failure"? The answer is that the political absolutism now normal in Washington arrived at the moment--Nov. 7, 2000--that our politics subordinated even a war against terror to seizing the office of the presidency." - Daniel Henninger - WSJ 11/18/05

CNN.com - Mohammed cartoons inflame U.S. campus - Mar 1, 2006

According to CNN "Depictions of Mohammed are prohibited under Islamic law." Yet, according to Paul Marshall at National Review recently, "There is a strong tradition within Islam that making portraits of Mohammed is wrong, but it is by no means universal. Some, especially Shiites, believe it is legitimate. Others believe that it is legitimate to portray him when he was young, before becoming a prophet."

One student says, "They are discussing Islamic terrorism and how most Muslims are apologists for terror," yet this is likely only one facet of what is being discussed.

According to CNN, "Marya Bangee, a member of the Muslim group's board (Muslim Student Union), said, "Displaying the cartoons at U.C. Irvine will only incite hatred against and deeply hurt its Muslim community. We do not believe in any violence."

I say three cheers to herself and the group; isn't this in part what the conference/discussion is supposed to be about? She and the group she represents are just some of those that should be involved in these discussions; not trying to stamp it out because of these cartoons. More here
