"How did it come to pass that an opposition's measure of a president's foreign policy was all or nothing, success or "failure"? The answer is that the political absolutism now normal in Washington arrived at the moment--Nov. 7, 2000--that our politics subordinated even a war against terror to seizing the office of the presidency." - Daniel Henninger - WSJ 11/18/05

Massachusetts forces Health Plan on Nearly All

It would be interesting to see if it works, however this being the onset; it is all just a bunch of politicians patting themselves on the back.

"Individuals who can afford private insurance will be penalized on their state income taxes if they do not purchase it."

It is interesting and somewhat disconcerting that people will be "forced" to buy insurance. To avoid costs of people without insurance using an emergency room and having the government pay for it, they will now have to purchase insurance. With these people purchasing insurance the state is assured that this will bring rates down as more people will be buying.
