"How did it come to pass that an opposition's measure of a president's foreign policy was all or nothing, success or "failure"? The answer is that the political absolutism now normal in Washington arrived at the moment--Nov. 7, 2000--that our politics subordinated even a war against terror to seizing the office of the presidency." - Daniel Henninger - WSJ 11/18/05

Show Me the Money!

For those that do not or have never owned a home the idea of suddenly acquiring $100k plus debt where none was before can be quite daunting. What once may have been a fairly low debt existence has over night become a seriously large IOU.

There is a very bright side to all of this though, one of which is having a house you call home, not just where you live, but it’s yours. There are all sorts of tax deductions, like the interest on the loan that help make the house payments less than they appear.

Ultimately however, a mortgage loan is not just money you borrowed and owe, it is the roof over your house and if it makes it easier for you consider each mortgage payment a payment to yourself; you’re getting a house in the deal.

Prior to taking on homeownership one should do a little research on financing; a good place to start out might be CREDITLOAN, which has a rich selection of information on that loan for a home.

CREDITLOAN goes beyond mortgages; it covers all types of financing, for instance whether you have bad credit or no you might consider perusing facts, plans and possible remedies one such remedy might be Bad Credit Personal Loans. This is not about those that are “bad” and will loan you money, although you know they’re out there; it’s about your credit rating being “bad” or none existent, both situations make getting a loan difficult, but not impossible and the section at CREDITLOAN that should be required reading is the Bad Credit Personal Loans section.

Don’t just take my word for it, give the site a visit even if you’re not looking to buy a home, credit is an important aspect of our lives whether we like it or not. Whether you are looking into credit repair, debt consolidation, auto, payday, or student loans bone up on the market by making a visit to CREDITLOAN and get facts and advice.

Stack the Deck at Modern Skate and Surf

Decks, decks and more decks; shoes, t-shirts, trucks, skateboards, snowboards, wakeboards, in-line, and everything in between that is skating and surf related.

If you’re looking for a skateboard either buy the finished product or put one together yourself by purchasing the deck, trucks, wheels, tape and anything else your heart desires. If you want the complete deal take a look at the element skateboards or zero skateboards.

Sunglasses on the slopes or at the park; speaking of which Modern Skate & Surf has the skatepark too close to the Lansing, Royal Oak, Grand Rapids, and Novi areas of Michigan.

Looking to make that new boarding wardrobe purchases as well; they’ve got it.

Check out Modern Skate & Surf, you won’t find nothing, because they have it all.

On the Subject of Home Improvements

Home improvements; when you own a house it never seems to end, I can go to work in the morning and return home at night and my wife has done something new.

We don’t have anything major to do now, although I wouldn’t mind hitting up the backyard and changing it into an oasis in the desert (we live in AZ). After looking on-line at Anglian Home Improvements, I’ve come up with a couple more things I’d like to do. Other than a nice array of Windows, Doors and other home improvement products, what caught my eye were Garage Doors and Conservatories.

On the subject of Conservatories we have a small covered patio; enclosing it adding from the selection of Conservatories available would look pretty sharp (see below).

Garage Doors…I don’t know that we are in any dire need of replacing what we have, but I got a good vibe from those they have at Anglian Home Improvements. One especially, though perhaps not a perfect fit is the one piece door design, which have a very historic and nostalgic look to them.

All in all, Anglian Home Improvements looks like a pretty good on-line find; check out some of their other offerings from driveways, overhead on the roof and all the way to the kitchen.

    Jamaica Guide

Jamaica; “come to Jamaica” is the commercial that always runs through my head when I think of traveling there. It is by far a place I would love to visit one day. Anytime you see pictures of the beaches and their surrounding waters I’m always struck by the absolutely gorgeous blue; it almost doesn’t look real.

Consider that you have the choice of 1,000 plus kilometers of coastline for lazy days on the beaches of Jamaica.

If you tire of relaxing(?) why not give snorkeling a try. According to the Jamaica guide some of the great spots are: Doctor's Cave Beach, Coyoba, Seaworld and Royal Reefs. Go deeper giving some diving a shot at Rock Cliff Reef or Sharks Reef; personally I would take in a guided tour so as not to miss anything local guides would know that you don’t.

Beaches and diving is not all there is to do while in Jamaica; explore the many landmarks that make Jamaica great including the "Great Houses," museums and other cultural attractions in the Kingston, Montego Bay and Ochos Rios areas.

Regardless of what you decide to do during your days in Jamaica it will not be a vacation you will soon forget.

Like a Thoof in the Night

Thoof is one of those sites where you submit posts of your own or just posts you find that you really enjoy. Referring to Thoof as “one of those sites” doesn’t seem appropriate though, as the process of registering, submitting and embedding the ThoofRank badge is straightforward and extremely easy. It is also more of a personalized news submittal community.

Registration at Thoof consists of entering your email address; you then receive an email with a link back; click on that, enter a password of your choice and THAT IS IT!!! This to me is very good; none of this immediately upfront registration detail to bother with, you just get going.

Want to submit one of your posts or a particular post or article that you like? Either use the Thoof bookmark/post tool or do it manually by using the submit story function at the Thoof site. Either way requires zero thought or intelligence as I was able to do it without the usual back and forth trying to figure out how this or that works.

When you submit a post to Thoof you also include a ThoofRank badge, which tracks the popularity of the submission and this “rank” is not typical of many other social book marking sites as the ranking is based upon percentage interest a post has among users interested in that subject or niche; not just general Thoof members.

This ThoofRank badge is an html that is set up for you that you just add to your post; copy and paste and it’s done.

I fully intend to give Thoof a try; with a few simple clicks it is a virtually effortless step to add to my daily posts on my blog.

    Poof and Thoof, it's done!

Chicago Tribune and BP Whiting Refinery Heavy Petroleum Increase

In these days of global warming theatrics and perhaps downplaying of environment issues from the other side it becomes more and more apparent each day that someone needs to stand up and speak honestly about these issues.

On the other hand what we do on this planet has to have some kind of impact one would think, but to what degree is the question. It is for this reason that environmental standards are set and those that do not heed those standards and laws are rightfully punished; when caught anyway.

The main stream media says that it reports in an unbiased and even handed way, yet day in and day out one sees via the voice of the author and the words used often connote a very different impression.

We’ve grown so used to it that we barely notice anymore unless we happen to know much of the detail already, which of course is possible with all the sources of information available at our fingertips with the help of the internet.

I often find myself thinking the OpEd pages as perhaps a place to do that, especially since it speaks with such authority and certainly would not mislead; that is however the least likely place for one to find the truth of a matter. This is sad as now one has to wonder where to turn.

What’s the real story here? Recently the Chicago Tribune published an editorial regarding British Petroleum’s (BP) “massive” oil refinery in Whiting, IN. The opinion piece concern is an increase in pollution in Lake Michigan due to BP’s plans to begin refining “Canadian crude oil to reduce its reliance on sources in the Middle East,” which according to the paper is a “dirtier process than conventional methods. It also requires more energy that could significantly increase greenhouse gases linked to global warming. According to the paper the Canadian crude is heavier, thereby making the refining a dirtier process.

Noted in the piece is the fact that BP will be allowed to pump more “toxic waste” into the lake than is allowed by State standards but is that is below Federal standards. My question at this point is whether it is in fact, “toxic waste” if it has been treated?

According to BP it has worked with Fed, state and local government to develop “environmentally sound plans. In contrast to the opinion piece which says that BP “will now be allowed to dump an average of 1,584 pounds of ammonia and 4,925 pounds of sludge into Lake Michigan every day. The additional sludge is the maximum allowed under federal guidelines.

BP says that “$150 million to enhance the refinery's wastewater treatment capability,” as well as the fact that “what is released from our refinery is treated water that is more than 99.9% water - not sludge. All sludge is treated separately, according to state and federal requirements, and never discharged into Lake Michigan.”

The Chicago Tribune piece appears to be implying that the BP project is making claims of increased employment, which yes BP has made, yet it is not the only benefit though the paper makes it sound this way. BP says that the intent to increase its refining of Canadian heave crude is in line with the effort to export less crude from the Middle Eastern region; something that many of us clamor for. In its effort and that of others it would be nice not to thwart any of these attempts without all the facts, otherwise we’re cutting off our noses to spite our faces; something we tend to do very well.

Bottom line is that I don’t see this as a reason to bring back some type of “fairness doctrine,” but I do think it would behoove the public and the papers themselves to consider voluntarily offering both sides of an issue side by side.

The opinion page can be a place of emotional and frantic calls against this or that evil; yet when put side by side with the statements of a BP, you have statements with no emotion. Again, in this day of heightened awareness of the human races impact on the planet it would be nice to be able to feel like we all our weighing the facts and not just jumping on one band wagon or another.

BP makes the claim that it is “committed to minimizing the environmental impact of their action;” having read the opinion piece and the statements of the company, I would suggest comparing the two for yourself; keeping emotion out of it I believe you can come up with the answer yourself.

Science may not yet be able to discern what exactly our part in the impact on our environment we play, but opinion pieces sure do appear to know.

    Terry's Fabrics Quality Custom Blinds

Blinds? Duck or hunting blinds? No; window blinds. Well who cares about window blinds? Pretty much anyone with windows in the home I would guess. I know that I certainly care about them as I live the desert country of Arizona; blinds are good.

Oftentimes people think of the type of blinds one would see in an office environment or perhaps those that are on sliders to the patio in a backyard. They certainly are not a plain lot, to which I can attest as my wife seems to change them in our house at least twice, if not three times a year.

As the site for Terry’s Fabrics point out in their roman blind section, blinds are not just modern, formal or only appropriate to period homes. Add the various fabrics available in the roman blind design; which consists of a simple look in the front that falls in a series of level folds to the sill and you have countless choices.

With all the roman blind styles, including but not limited to: the natural look of Nigeria Roman blinds or Brussels Roman blind; the more contemporary styling of the striped beige coffee color of the Atlanta Roman blind. Each of the three styles goes nicely with their warm earth tones.

Terry’s Fabrics not only offers quality roman blinds, but every kind of window covering imaginable; made possible by their years of experience offering quality custom made blinds. If you or someone you know is considering new window coverings it looks like Terry’s Fabrics is a good place to start.
