"How did it come to pass that an opposition's measure of a president's foreign policy was all or nothing, success or "failure"? The answer is that the political absolutism now normal in Washington arrived at the moment--Nov. 7, 2000--that our politics subordinated even a war against terror to seizing the office of the presidency." - Daniel Henninger - WSJ 11/18/05

Iran's Timeline of Terror

In following the link this morning from RCP to Thomas Jocelyn's article at The Weekly Standard, "Sy Hersh's Overactive Imagination," which in and of itself is very interesting; I followed the link at the end of the article to his essay published September 11, 2007 at The Claremont Institute.

"Iran's Proxy War Against America, (PDF)" covers the evidence of Iranian links to al Qaeda and other terrorist groups regardless of their Sunni, Shiite or Palestinian sympathies. These essay itself is a very interesting and well thought out product that deserves attention and turns the conventional intelligence, government and media wisdom on its ear.

Do, at some point take the time to read it. You don't have to agree with everything within its pages, but should at the least use it as consideration for thinking outside the box when comparing claims of this nature with the overly cocksure attitude of the media mindset and what might really be.

Included is an appendix of Iran's Timeline of Terror, which aside from the dots that connect them, makes for a laundry list of reasons to make one wonder what are we waiting for?

November 4, 1979

Fifty-two American citizens are taken hostage by “students” loyal to Ayatollah Khomeini. They are held for more than a year, until January 20, 1981. The kidnappings are part of the Iranian revolution, which serves as a model for Sunni terrorist groups like Ayman al-Zawahiri’s Egyptian Islamic Jihad.

April 18, 1983

Iran’s master terrorist, Imad Mugniyah, orchestrates the first significant Islamist suicide attack against America: the bombing of the U.S. Embassy in Beirut. Establishing a modus operandi for terrorists in the years to come, the attacker utilizes a van packed with explosives.

October 23, 1983

Using massive truck bombs, Hezbollah’s suicide bombers simultaneously attack the U.S. Marine Barracks and a housing complex for French Paratroopers in Beirut, Lebanon. Al-Qaeda would later adopt simultaneous suicide bombings as its preferred method for committing attacks.

December 12, 1983

Iranian-backed terrorists bomb the U.S. Embassy in Kuwait. A close relative of Imad Mugniyah is convicted by a Kuwaiti court and sentenced to death for his role in the bombing. Other attackers,
also supported by
Iran, are imprisoned. The terrorists come to be known as the “Kuwait 17” or “Dawa 17.” 75 iran’s proxy war against america

March 16, 1984

William Buckley, the CIA’s station chief in Beirut, is kidnapped and later tortured-to-death by Imad Mugniyah’s Hezbollah. Buckley’s kidnapping is one in a series of Hezbollah’s kidnappings from the early 1980s through the early 1990s. Dozens of Americans are kidnapped and Hezbollah frequently demands an exchange for the Kuwait 17. Hezbollah’s kidnappings lead to the biggest scandal of President Ronald Reagan’s tenure, the Iran-Contra affair, after the Reagan administration agrees to exchange arms for the hostages.

September 20, 1984

Hezbollah terrorists strike the U.S. Embassy annex in Beirut with a truck bomb.

December 3, 1984

Mugniyah’s operatives hijack Kuwait Airways Flight 221. The hijackers attempt to barter for the release of the Kuwait 17.

June 14, 1985

Mugniyah’s terrorists hijack TWA Flight 847. Once again, the hijackers attempt to barter for the release of the Kuwait 17. When the hijackers’ demands are denied, they beat and kill a U.S. Navy serviceman, Robert Dean Stethem, who happened to be on the flight. Incredibly, Germany granted parole to one of the hijackers in December 2005.

1990

According to Ali Mohamed, a top al-Qaeda operative in U.S. custody, Ayman al-Zawahiri’s Egyptian Islamic Jihad partners with Iran in a planned coup attempt in Egypt. Tehran trains EIJ terrorists for the coup attempt, which is ultimately aborted. Iran also pays al-Zawahiri $2 million for sensitive information concerning 76 national security studies the Egyptian Government’s plans to raid several islands in the Persian Gulf.

1991

Iran and Sudan, then the world’s only Sunni Islamist states, forge a strategic alliance. They begin to jointly export terrorism throughout the world.

April 1991

Hassan al-Turabi hosts the first Popular Arab Islamic Conference in Sudan. The conference provides a forum for disparate forces in the Middle East who oppose American presence in the region to come together. Al-Qaeda, Hezbollah, Iraqi and Iranian representatives all attend the meeting.

February 26, 1993

Terrorists connected to al-Qaeda and the global terror network bomb the World Trade Center using a rental truck packed with explosives. The bombers’ colleagues plot a follow-on attack against landmarks in the NYC area. There is no known evidence that Iran had a hand in these events. It is clear, however, that several of the plotters had ties to Hassan al-Turabi’s Sudan. Sheikh Omar Abdel-Rahman, the spiritual leader of the two leading Egyptian terrorist groups (both of which will join al- Qaeda) and who was living in the New York metropolitan area, is later convicted for his involvement in the attacks. Reports surface that he and his organization received financial assistance from Iran.

1993

According to Ali Mohamed, Imad Mugniyah and Osama bin Laden meet in Sudan. Bin Laden expresses his desire to model al- Qaeda after Hezbollah. In particular, bin Laden expresses interest in Mugniyah’s bombing of the U.S. Embassy in Beirut in 1983 77 iran’s proxy war against america and similar attacks. They agree to work together against America and the West.

1993

According to Jamal al-Fadl, an al-Qaeda operative in U.S. custody, bin Laden meets a leading Iranian sheikh in Sudan. The purpose of the meeting is to put aside any differences between their competing brands of Islam in order to come together against their common enemy: the West. The meeting is just the first of several between bin Laden and Iran’s spiritual leaders.

1993

Hezbollah and the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps train al- Qaeda’s terrorists in camps in Sudan, Lebanon and Iran. Among the terrorists trained are some of bin Laden’s most trusted lieutenants and al-Qaeda’s future leaders.

1993

Egypt and Algeria cut off diplomatic ties with Iran. Both nations accuse Iran and Sudan of supporting Sunni terrorism, including terrorist groups affiliated with al-Qaeda. Egypt will blame Iran for supporting both the Egyptian Islamic Jihad and the Islamic Group throughout the 1990’s.

November 13, 1995

Two bombs are detonated, nearly simultaneously, at the Saudi National Guard training facility in Riyadh, killing five Americans. The suspects are captured and confess to being inspired by Osama bin Laden. Bin Laden denies responsibility, but praises the attack. It is likely al-Qaeda’s first terrorist attack inside the Saudi Kingdom. 78 national security studies

November 19, 1995

An al-Qaeda suicide bomber destroys the Egyptian Embassy in Islamabad, Pakistan. The CIA’s Bob Baer later learns that Mugniyah’s deputy assisted al-Qaeda in the attack and that one of bin Laden’s top terrorists remained in contact with Mugniyah’s offi ce months afterwards.

May 1996

Bin Laden is expelled from Sudan, but the 9/11 Commission reports that “intelligence indicates the persistance of contacts” between al-Qaeda and Iran even after al-Qaeda’s relocation to Afghanistan. Bin Laden and al-Qaeda maintain an ongoing presence in Sudan, despite not being “formally” welcome.

June 21 - 23, 1996

Tehran hosts a summit for the leading Sunni and Shiite terrorist groups. It is announced that the terrorists will continue to focus on U.S. interests thoughout the region. Mugniyah, bin Laden, and a leading member of the EIJ reportedly forge the “Committee of Three,” under the leadership of Iran’s intelligence chief, to focus their joint efforts against American targets.

June 25, 1996

Hezbollah terrorists, operating under the direction of senior Iranian officials, bomb the Khobar Towers apartment complex in Saudi Arabia. Contemporaneous reports by both the State Department and the CIA note that al-Qaeda is also suspected of playing a role. The 9/11 Commission would later find “indirect evidence” of al-Qaeda’s involvement. The evidence includes intelligence indicating that al-Qaeda was planning a similar operation in the months prior and that bin Laden was congratulated by other al-Qaeda operatives, including Ayman al-Zawahiri, shortly after the attack. 79 iran’s proxy war against america

July 1996

According to Bob Baer, the Egyptian Islamic Group—an ally of bin Laden’s al-Qaeda—is in contact with Mugniyah.

1996

According to Bob Baer, there is “incontrovertible evidence” of a meeting between bin Laden and a representative of the Iranian Ministry of Intelligence and Security (MOIS).

August 7, 1998

Al-Qaeda’s suicide bombers simultaneously destroy the U.S. Embassies in Kenya and Tanzania. It is al-Qaeda’s most spectacular attack prior to 9/11. The attack is clearly modeled on Hezbollah’s attacks in the early 1980s. Indeed, the al-Qaeda terrorists responsible were trained by Hezbollah in the early 1990s. There is evidence that Iran also provided explosives used in the attack.

October - November 2000

Imad Mugniyah and his lieutenants personally escort several of the 9/11 muscle hijackers out of Saudi Arabia on flights to Beirut and Iran. In all, eight to ten of the hijackers travel through Iran on the way to 9/11.

December 2000

Ramzi Binalshibh, al-Qaeda’s key point man for the 9/11 plot, applies for visa at the Iranian Embassy in Berlin. His visa application is approved.

January 31, 2001

Ramzi Binalshibh arrives at Tehran International airport. He does not return to Germany until February 28, 2001. The purpose of his trip to Iran remains a mystery. The 9/11 Commission does not mention Binalshibh’s trip to Iran. 80 national security studies

Early September 2001

Binalshibh flees to Iran shortly before the 9/11 attacks.

September 11, 2001

Nineteen al-Qaeda hijackers execute al-Qaeda’s largest operation to date, killing nearly 3000 Americans. Many of the details surrounding the plot, including who financed the attack, remain a mystery.

October 2001

According to a high-level Taliban detainee at Gitmo, Iran offers the Taliban Government assistance in retreating from Afghanistan.

October 2001

Numerous press reports indicate that Iran aids the retreat of hundreds of al-Qaeda and Taliban members from Afghanistan. Some al-Qaeda operatives enjoy safehaven in Iran to this day. Among them is Said al-Adel, who is reportedly the third highest ranking member of al-Qaeda and was trained by Hezbollah during the early 1990s, and Saad bin Laden, Osama’s heir apparent.

April 11, 2002

Al-Qaeda carries out the first attack ordered by bin Laden since 9/11: a suicide bomber destroys a synagogue in Tunisia, killing nineteen people. According to NBC News, Saad bin Laden contacted the cell responsible for the attack from his safehaven in Iran. Suleiman Abu Ghaith, bin Laden’s spokesman, also claims al-Qaeda’s responsibility for the attack from his abode in Iran.

End of 2002 - Spring 2003

According to former Director of Central Intelligence George Tenet, senior al-Qaeda leaders discuss the acquisition of nuclear weapons from their safe haven in Iran. In fact, al-Qaeda’s “nuclear 81 iran’s proxy war against america chief,” Abdel al-Aziz al-Masri, is one of many senior terrorists living in Iran.

May 12, 2003

Under orders from Saif al-Adel and Saad bin Laden, who are operating from Iran, al-Qaeda’s terrorists simultaneously strike three separate housing complexes in Riyadh Saudi Arabia. Another al- Qaeda agent thought to be responsible for the attack flees to Iran before he can be captured.

May 16, 2003

One dozen al-Qaeda bombers attack several targets in Casablanca, Morocco. Saad bin Laden, living in Iran, is reportedly in contact with the cell shortly before the attack.

2004 – present

Iran supplies advanced IED technology to the insurgents in Iraq. There is growing evidence of Iranian support for both Sunni and Shiite insurgency groups in Iraq. Iran continues to harbor senior al-Qaeda leaders as the terrorist network reorganizes.

January 20, 2007

IRGC and Hezbollah terrorists kill five American soldiers in Karbala, Iraq

January 2007 – present

Numerous IRGC and Hezbollah terrorists, who are responsible for arming and training terrorist groups in Iraq, are captured by American and Iraqi forces. 82 national security studies.

International Forum of News Agencies Coalition for Peace

"The Iranain nation is an exemplary one in the world and if they are not present in the world scenes, then others will make decisions for them.” - Mahmoud Ahmadinejad

Two new links are now provided at the Islamic Republic News Agency; one links to the “AMIA Case,” the other is the “International Forum of News Agencies Coalition for Peace.”

    Of the AMIA Case:

"Two Jewish centers in Argentine, including the buildings of Argentine-Israelite Mutual Association (AMIA) and Delegation of Israeli Argentine Associations (DAIA) were destroyed in a bomb explosion on July 18, 1994 leaving 85 people dead and more than 250 others injured."

The blame was placed at the feet of the Islamic Republic of Iran

Very long story short the explosion was a “pre-planned conspiracy by international Zionism and Argentine agents,” according to this very informative link from IRNA. Whether it's related to Israel or two skyscrapers in New York it is always a "conspiracy."

The attitude strikes one as not too peaceful, which does not share in the harmony inherent in the second link of note which is to the “International Forum of News Agencies Coalition for Peace” or IFNA. According to the site it is or they are:

“awaiting your kind cooperation in sending us news stories and articles related to “peace, conflict-resolutions and non-violence,” via email: ifna-cp@irna.com, to put up on the ifna site for a mutual exchange of views and ideas to help in finding true peace in the world.”

Very loving and peaceful and from the same news agency whose “about us” link does not beat around the bush. In brief (skipping over its establishment in 1934 and jumping forward):

"After the triumph of the Islamic Revolution in February 1979 the revolution's council, in June 1979, decided to rename the Ministry of Information and Tourism to the National Guidance Ministry (or Ministry of National Guidance). This was followed in December, 1981 bya bill passed by the Islamic Consultative Assembly (Majlis) changing the name of the country's official news agency from Pars News Agency to Islamic Republic News Agency."

    Its guidelines (again very brief):

"The professional activities of the Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA) are based on and aimed at securing the Islamic Republic of Iran's national interests. Efforts of management and professional personnel of IRNA are thus focused on achieving higher ground each day n fulfillment of its stated goal.

The organization functions as the "mother source of information dissemination" within the country, feeding its authorities, nationals and various publications with various types of news, bulletins, research works, opinion polls and stories of general interest through its various telex lines."

Number 1 on its list of guidelines is the “mass production and dissemination of news and informative material taking into account its main objective of promoting the interests and objectives of the Islamic Republic of Iran.”

Someone with even an almost imperceptible head on their shoulders wouldn’t need to read any of this to realize it, but it’s interesting as it is the major source of information in Iran. So when, as Ahmadinejad did yesterday says:

“The US' failed plot at Columbia University has secured a big win for the Iranian nation in thwarting the US and Zionist conspiracies

"The Zionists wanted to turn the event into a trial of the Isalmic Republic of Iran, but with help from the Almighty God, the plot turned into a scene in which nations could express their hatred with the rulers in the White House."

"The behavior of the government and media in the US shows that there is dictatorship in that country and people are not allowed to know the facts."

When Ahmadinejad speaks and their “news” agency prints, especially in the realm of “PEACEFUL NUKES,” more people should question what the truth really is.

First Annual International Day of Non-Violence – Oct 2, 2007

Addressing the UN General Assembly in its first observance of “International Day of Non-Violence, Secretary-General of the UN Ban Ki-moon said:

“The message of Mahatma Gandhi, whose peaceful struggle helped birth an independent India and inspired countless people around the world, is needed now more than ever amid rising global tensions, intolerance and conflict.”

    According to UN reporting:

India’s Minister of State for External Affairs, Mr. Anand Sharma, said that the wide and diverse sponsorship of the resolution was a reflection of the universal respect for Mahatma Gandhi and of the enduring relevance of his philosophy.”

Yeah, that and this is what the UN does, right….much easier than action; but to the UN this is action! Feel Good!!!!!

Quoting Mahatma Ghandi with whom the day is to honor from that paragon of all things peaceful, Iran:

"Non-violence is the greatest force at the disposal of mankind. It is mightier than the mightiest weapon of destruction devised by the ingenuity of man"

Please note: this is not to be confused with International Qods Day even though this particular reporting comes from IRNA

On the subject of International Qods Day (mark your calendars, 10/5/07), more remarks from participants in the Islamic Republic.

From Secretary General of the Society of Jame Rouhaniyat-e-Mobarez (JRM), the Ayatollah Mohammad-Reza mahdavi-Kani noted that:

“sixty years of bloodshed in Palestine proved that Israel cannot live in peace. He said that recognition of the occupying regime will never bring peace to Palestine and the Zionist regime cannot live without bloodshed.”

The Tehrani Jewish community or TJC exhorted many to participate:

“massively in the International Qods Day rallies. Qods day is a sign of love and interest, of the followers of divine religions, in holy Qods, that is respected by all monotheists.”

Interior Minister Hojjatoleslam Mostafa Pour- Mohammadi said:

“all Muslims are expected to take part in the International Qods Day rallies for the sake of unity and integrity of Muslims in defense of the Palestinian nation.”

Last but certainly not least, especially on this first annual International Day of Non-Violence, the Islamic Republic Army on Tuesday condemned the "usurper" Zionists' crimes in occupied Palestine and said they will take part in the International Qods Day rallies on October 5. A statement reported by IRNA read:

"After lapse of six decades from establishment of the Zionist regime and the entity's ambitious objectives, the concept of cancerous tumor, attributed to the usurper regime, has become more evident to all."

May efforts to appreciate and celebrate this first annual day of non-violence lend itself to the Islamic Republic army as:

“the occupying regime of Qods' threat goes far beyond Palestine, Lebanon and even the Middle East but the US and western states do not show any reaction to the clandestine nuclear activities of the occupying regime.”

Oh yeah, and Obama is working to “urge elimination of nuclear weapons….”

  • Family Fun, Cotton Candy and Death to Israel

Time to pack the family up and get ready for the fun and frivolity of International Qods Day (IQD) celebrations slated for October 5, 2007.

    What is IQD?:

“International Qods Day reminds the world of the decades of Israeli oppression against an innocent and defenseless nation. The late founder of the Islamic Republic, Imam Khomeini, designated the day. During this annual event both Muslims and non-Muslims in large numbers in many countries come out to renew their support for the Palestinians and their resistance against the cruel Israeli military occupation.”

In juxtaposition to the day, Israeli Foreign Minister and Vice Prime Minister Tzipi Livni while addressing the UN 62nd General Assembly yesterday said:

"The foundation for true peace lies in the vision of two States, Israel and Palestine, living side by side in peace and security."

Of the threats of terror and extremism she said:

"Israel may be on the front lines of this battle" against terrorism, but it is not our fight alone. This is a global battle...today it is clear that the extremists are engaged in a bloody war against civilians and communities...in every corner of the world. And it is clear too, that the Middle East conflict is not a cause of this global extremist agenda, but a consequence of it."

"But for success to be genuine and lasting, you - the nations of the world - need to be partners in a shared global struggle against the extremism and terror that feed conflict, for your sake not just for ours."

Of Iran, a major force behind the International Qods Day, though her comments were not with regard to the day:

"No responsible state disagrees that Iran is the most prominent sponsor of terrorism...None disagrees that Iran denies the Holocaust and speaks openly of its desire to wipe a member state - mine - off the map...",

"Too many see the danger but walk idly by - hoping that someone else will take care of it. What is the value, we have to ask, of an organization which is unable to take effective action in the face of a direct assault on the very principles it was founded to protect? It is time for the United Nations, and the States of the world, to live up to their promise of never again."

Iranian leaders/groups remarks regarding International Qods Day

Majlis deputy from Tehran Saeed Abutaleb said of the day of unity:

“the world should break silence on the day and the Muslims are expected to chant slogans in support of Palestinians.”

Agreed, the world should break its silence and shove the truth down the throats of these instigators of death in Iran that have so much to do with keeping the terror in the region living and breathing.

Moussa Qorbani, member of the Majils presiding board while calling for “massive turnout” Friday said:

“According to history, the Palestinian territory belongs to the Palestinian nation.

In reaction to failures the Zionists suffered in the occupied territories, the occupying regime has exerted intensive pressure on innocent Palestinian people.

The World Bank said in a report that the economic sanctions Israel imposed on Palestinians in Gaza has made life drastically difficult.”

Damned Israelis, why won’t they give aid and comfort to the Hezzies that are now in charge in Gaza? Can you imagine how peaceful the world would be without them?

The World Forum for Proximity of the Islamic Schools of Thoughts (WFPIST or We’re F**kin’ Pissed) statement of unity:

"The international Qods Day is considered the day of emergence of the Islamic grandeur, Muslims' campaign against arrogant powers, symbol of Islamic solidarity and resistance by the oppressed, and unity among all justice-seeking and truth-lover human beings."

I’m guessing the “justice-seeking, truth-lover human beings” will in time find truth, but not until their propaganda and lies are effectively considered truth.

Palestinian Ambassador to Iran, Salah Zawawi talked to Iran Daily about this day of celebrations, rallies and protests last year. In describing US support of the Zionist Israelis…:

“The reason for this was not their love for the Jews, rather they wanted to get rid of the Jews and their evilness. The Americans have been pushing for their own interest in the Middle East, including oil and hegemony. The US wants to spread the seeds of discord among Arabs and Muslims and rule over them. It has a history of creating turmoil in Muslim countries and enmity among Sunnis and Shiites. The so-called new Middle East Initiative is in line with this policy.”

Iran leads the way in attempts at unifying Muslims and Muslim nations with the expectations that the final product will be under its leadership. Iran supports and is a terrorist state and is devoted to Islamification of the planet. Pipe dreams for sure, but anything is possible when we keep our eyes closed and ears plugged.

    CELEBRATE!!!!!!!!!!!

    Madmen Shouldn't Play with Matches

The moment Iran has the capability to create nuclear weapons, the world will change. The moment Iran creates nuclear weapons life will not be the same, like it was on September 12, 2001. Those that choose to believe that a nuclear Iran can be handled (an msm-loved and revered retired general, along with a lot of people), the greater threat to the world is George Bush or any other opinion that avoids possible recognition of the administrations side of the debate; please don't be surprised when much of it comes to fruition, you just weren't listening.

    From Family Security Matters:

"One of the more surprising things about Iran and the visit of its president, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, is that Bush administration’s unwillingness to lay out the case of Iran’s unusual complicity with al Qaeda. I say unusual only because Shi’ite governments do not often make common cause with Sunni radicals, although tactical alliances among non-state actors is not so unusual.

But, it seems, if the cause is big enough, tactical alliances can be made and endure. Hatred for the United States and a shared desire to create Islamist states seem to be enough in this case to unite the old guard of al Qaeda with the Ahmadinejad regime. The tactical alliance is not new, but it is passing strange that, in light of the relationship, the current administration does not focus more explaining the Iranian threat.

This alliance alone is enough to negate Ahmadinejad’s request to visit Ground Zero in New York. He scored tactical points by making the request and having it denied, although it would be akin to allowing an accomplice to lay a wreath at the grave of the victims."

Friday Sermon from Iran and New York

A moment of silence? At least from Tehran that is how it would appear; in NY however, the Mullahs Supreme Allegiance Branch West, otherwise known as the NY Times Editorial Board is in its usual frothing at the mouth form.

Tehran is quiet from a reporting point of view, which is unusual for a government controlled mouthpiece often overflowing with the propaganda rhetoric of the weeks Friday Prayer Leader. We’ll have to wait and see what next Friday brings to judge whether this lack will become the standard; perhaps their own words are coming back to bite them as they work to hide their faces of evil.

But no sooner does someone finish writing a paragraph and the floodgates are loosed; from Tehran, Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei led the congregation with:

"Alert and wise Iranian nation, relying on strong faith and resistance, made US project of weakening Islamic Revolution face defeat. The Iranian nation would continue paving the same proud and glorious path, and a time will come when no power would dare to threaten this nation, even in his mind."

The religio-politico leader also defined US plans following 9/11 by adding:

"The Americans had a multi-dimensional project, aimed at shaping up a pro-Zionist Middle East, but faced defeat at all layers of that project."

Sometimes too much love can be harmful, but if you so choose visit the Motormouth Mullah for more of his positive message.

Mullahs West for its part continued the assault to strengthen the imagined belief that President Bush is the real enemy in this war and offered the fruits of wisdom with its summation of the week:

“This was the week in which Americans hoped they would get straight talk and clear thinking on Iraq. What they got was two exhausting days of Congressional testimony by the American military commander, hours of news conferences and interviews, clouds of cut-to-order statistics and a speech from the Oval Office — and none of it either straight or clear.”

It is a shame that in its role as the arbiter of truth the toilet paper believes “Americans” are so easily exhausted by an entire two days of information. Perhaps, as is obvious it is The behind the Times that has issues with the clarity and direction it expected from the testimony and “hours of news conferences and interviews.” When the only thing that would please Mullahs West is what they want to hear, anything short of that is just more smoke, mirrors and clouds.

Beyond the repetition complaining about repetition and various assertive, yet naïve strategies the board did at the least not bash General Petraeus. This was likely due to the lack of this necessity with the discounted full page ad given to the MoveOn group.

Beyond the redun, redundant, redundant and repetitive moaning and alternate propaganda with “cherry picked” remarks and misinformation, Mullahs West did offer up a very revealing sentence that suggests how wrong they really are. In hoping “Mr. Bush would drop the meaningless talk of victory” and the “fiction that the war keeps” Americans safe from terrorism; they offered “credit” to the general for not adopting “that bit of propaganda.”

So used to supporting those in the General Officers club that agree with their perspective, that when a general rightly chooses not to play a role in the larger political snafu; a role mind you that is not the generals to play, that they give him “credit” for doing something he shouldn’t be doing anyway.

All the world’s a stage, and all the men and women merely politicians…

Petraeus Betray Us, Feinstein Lyin': Iraq and the Greater War on Terror

From the Editors at National Review Online comes this closer, which says it all:

“Sen. Dianne Feinstein yesterday dismissed General Petraeus as not an “independent evaluator” of the Iraq war. Everything we’ve heard this year indicates that Petraeus is in fact a cautious and factual evaluator of the surge, but in a sense Feinstein is right — Petraeus is vested in the war, sees it as an important national project, and wants to win. Would that Democrats showed a similar bias.”

There happens to be a lot of great points in this editorial that make it very worthwhile reading as well as more commentary from: Byron York, Michael O’Hanlon, Michael Yon, John Boehner, Mark Hemingway, Fred Kagan, Donald Kagan, W. Thomas Smith, Jr., Michael Barone, William Hawkins, Mark Steyn and James S. Robbins.

So, with the new majority in Washington are we truly to believe that Bush is the whole problem?

On another facet of the war on terror Newt Gingrich visited Fox and Friends this morning, where in part he suggested the U.S. concentrate/debate on the big picture in the war on terror and not just focus on Iraq. This is wise advice as so many speak to the Iraq theater just going away if we withdraw/redeploy; an end to this war.

Iran for some time now has been shelling in the Kurdish north of Iraq; an Iranian delegation at a diplomatic conference in Baghdad at the Iraqi Foreign Ministry warned in diplomatese:

“if the Iraqi government could not stop militants from crossing into Iran and carrying out attacks, the Iranian authorities would respond militarily.”

A veiled suggestion to enter Iraq militarily is the first straight forward remark from Iran even though its words reveal its plans daily.

According to the delegation the U.S. has a “double-standard” as:

‘”Supporting military and political actions by terrorist elements in Iraq against neighboring countries is considered dangerous behavior that we cannot tolerate, and a major factor in the chaotic security situation and instability in the region.”’

This double-standard unfortunately does not reach the heights of the exponentially rising “double-standards” of Iran, but the U.S. has to start somewhere, no?

The conference, which was organized by the Iraqi Foreign Ministry and led by Hoshyar Zebari was attended by the U.S. and other “concerned” neighbors in the region.

We’ve all heard of the calls from many on the Left to bring regional players together in a diplomatic forum (this conference; an example of what they do not see) to bring peace and calm to Iraq. At the conference, Hoshyar Zebari proposed:

“creating a “secretariat” to keep track of the Iraq issues being considered at the meetings.

When it became apparent that the United States and Britain backed Mr. Zebari’s proposal, Syria, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain and others quickly took the floor to shoot the proposal down. The conference ended with the issue unresolved.”

This is a shame, but par for the course. Groups like this don’t appear to have any difficulty when it comes to say, a Durban II; then again, Durban II is in line with Democrat talking points and strategy of reframing the debate with misleading, obfuscation and lies.
